Recently, the paradižnik tree has become one of the most sought-after plants among gardening enthusiasts. But what exactly is the paradižnik tree and why is it so special?
Tree paradižnik, botanical Solanum betaceum, is a perennial plant from the nightshade family (Solanaceae) – the same family as paradižnik, peppers, chilies and potatoes.
However, it is not the classic garden paradižnik (Solanum lycopersicum), but a completely different species.
It originates from South America (Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia), where it grows in the higher, slightly cooler regions of the Andes.
The name “tree paradižnik” is not accidental.
