Dragon Fruit – Variegata

Pitaya Variegated (Hylocereus sp.) is one of the most rare and extremely decorative variations of dragon fruit that occurs as a natural mutation with characteristic discoloration (variegation). This phenomenon causes the shoots to be colored in several shades – in addition to the usual green, they appear white, yellow, pink and even almost completely bright yellow shoots, which turns the plant into a true collector's item.

The plant grows as a three-part climbing cactus, similar to common pitayas, but due to variegation, growth is often a little slower, and the shoots are more sensitive to strong sunlight, which is quite normal for variegated varieties. Mature shoots and young growths often show strong contrasts between yellow and green, which makes the plant extremely attractive even as a decorative container plant.

The flowers are large, white and night-blooming, and the fruits are smaller, usually round, with multi-colored shell, which reflects the pattern on the shoots. The flesh is white, delicate, slightly sweet and pleasantly aromatic. It is mainly collector's variety, appreciated for its unique aesthetics, making it a great choice for lovers of rare and special plants.

The variety is self-fertile, forms fruits without the need for a second pitaya.
