Lychee paradi\u017enik (Solanum sisymbrifolium<\/strong>) is an extremely interesting plant from the family of the oleanders, with an unusual appearance and a unique taste of its fruits. It grows as potato<\/strong>, it will be like cactus<\/strong>, blooms like eggplant<\/strong>, and the taste of the fruits is reminiscent of sour cherry<\/strong>. The plant develops strong, branched stem<\/strong>, which can reach 1.5 to 2 m high<\/strong>, and is densely covered with thorns<\/strong>. During flowering it forms white to slightly purple flowers<\/strong>, similar to potato flowers, from which they develop round red fruits<\/strong> z yellowish, juicy interior<\/strong>, full of tiny seeds.<\/p>\n

The fruits have special sweet and sour taste<\/strong>, which is reminiscent of sour cherry<\/strong>, therefore they are suitable for fresh use, jams and sweet sauces<\/strong>. The plant is resistant and undemanding<\/strong>, but due to the thorns it is recommended for planting in garden edges or along fences<\/strong>. Lychee paradi\u017enik is a real specialty for lovers of rare and exotic plants.<\/p>\n

Ripe fruits are edible<\/strong>, but only fully mature<\/strong> \u2013 then they have a pleasant, slightly sour taste with a hint of paradi\u017enika and cherries.
Inedible or unripe fruits<\/strong> (as well as all other parts of the plant) contain alkaloids<\/strong>, especially co-solvent<\/strong>, solasone<\/strong> and solamargin<\/strong>, which are natural defense substances of the plant and can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals nausea, digestive problems, or allergic reactions<\/strong>.

So enjoy the fruits. only fully mature<\/strong>, in smaller quantities, and never use other parts of the plant<\/strong> (leaves, stem, root).<\/p>\n

Solanum sisymbriifolium is known as you are a trap plant<\/strong> (trap crop<\/em>) for suppression potato cyst nematodes<\/strong> (Globodera pallida<\/em> and Globodera rostochiensis<\/em>).
Its roots release substances that stimulate the hatching of nematode eggs<\/strong>, but the larvae in it they cannot complete their life cycle<\/strong>. This way, the pest population gradually decreases without the use of chemicals.<\/p>\n

Many of our customers report that they plant the plant along the edge of potato fields as a natural \u201cmagnet\u201d for the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata)<\/strong>.
