Tomatoes Blue Sea (Solanum lycopersicum) is unique modern Spanish variety, known for its distinctive blue-violet color and excellent taste. The name "Mar Azul" means Blue sea, which accurately describes its appearance: the upper part of the fruit is intensely blue-violet due to anthocyanin, and the lower part turns into deep red or burgundy shades.
The fruits are medium-sized, flattened and with a firm, smooth skin. The flesh is juicy, red, with balanced taste – pleasantly sweet, with a distinct aroma and just the right amount of acidity. Mar Azul is known for offering, compared to other “blue” varieties, much better, fuller taste, comparable to quality traditional red varieties.
The plant is indeterminate (needs support), strong growing, very productive and well adaptable. The variety does well in warm locations and sunny conditions, where the anthocyanin color reaches its most intense shade. Ripens mid-season, approximately 75–85 days after transplantation.
