Lychee paradižnik (Solanum sisymbrifolium) is an extremely interesting plant from the family of the oleanders, with an unusual appearance and a unique taste of its fruits. It grows as potato, it will be like cactus, blooms like eggplant, and the taste of the fruits is reminiscent of sour cherry. The plant develops strong, branched stem, which can reach 1.5 to 2 m high, and is densely covered with thorns. During flowering it forms white to slightly purple flowers, similar to potato flowers, from which they develop round red fruits z yellowish, juicy interior, full of tiny seeds.
The fruits have special sweet and sour taste, which is reminiscent of sour cherry, therefore they are suitable for fresh use, jams and sweet sauces. The plant is resistant and undemanding, but due to the thorns it is recommended for planting in garden edges or along fences. Lychee paradižnik is a real specialty for lovers of rare and exotic plants.
Ripe fruits are edible, but only fully mature – then they have a pleasant, slightly sour taste with a hint of paradižnika and cherries.
Inedible or unripe fruits (as well as all other parts of the plant) contain alkaloids, especially co-solvent, solasone and solamargin, which are natural defense substances of the plant and can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals nausea, digestive problems, or allergic reactions.
So enjoy the fruits. only fully mature, in smaller quantities, and never use other parts of the plant (leaves, stem, root).

Many of our customers report that they plant the plant along the edge of potato fields as a natural “magnet” for the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata). The beetles often first appear on these plants, where they are so abundant. easier to notice and remove, before spreading to the main potato crop.
