Dragon Fruit – Dark Star

Pitaya Dark Star is a top-quality hybrid variety created by crossing Hylocereus guatemalensis × Hylocereus undatus. He is known for his extremely fast growth, robust shoots and very large, high-quality fruits. The variety was created by the legendary pitaj breeder Paul Thomson, where it was initially designated as »"9-S"«, and only later received the name Dark Star.

The fruits are large, often close to 1 kg, with red-purple peel and dark purple-red flesh. The taste is extremely rich – very sweet, refreshing, with a distinct flavor grapes and lychee. The variety reaches brix also above 21, which makes it one of the sweetest pitayas. The texture of the flesh is smooth, soft, juicy, with relatively few seeds, which enhances the feeling of creamy pleasure.

Dark Star forms large white, fragrant flowers, which open at night and are extremely decorative. It is self-fertile, so it reliably produces fruit even without another pitaya variety.
