Chili “Carolina Reaper” (Capsicum chinense) is the most famous super hot chili variety in the world, which for a long time bore the title the hottest chili in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. It reaches incredible hotness 2,200,000 SHU, which means that it is more than 200 times hotter than a Jalapeño.
The variety was developed by Ed Currie (PuckerButt Pepper Company, South Carolina, USA), by crossing Pakistani Naga Morich and red Habanero. The fruits are small to medium-sized, with a characteristic hunched appearance and a "spike" at the end, which gives the variety its distinctive appearance.
Despite its intense heat, the Carolina Reaper has surprisingly rich taste – sweet, fruity-citrusy with notes of chocolate and a hint of floral aroma.
The plant is strong, up to 100 cm tall, and very fertile if it has enough heat. Due to its extreme heat, it is intended for experienced chili lovers, ideal for production of super hot sauces, drying and powder preparation, and in small quantities it is also appreciated by top chefs.
