Pumpkin Violin (Cucurbita moschata) is one of the most popular old varieties of muskmelon, valued for its sweetness, excellent aroma and exceptional storage stability. Name Violin originates from its characteristic shape, which resembles a violin or hourglass – the fruits are elongated, slightly curved, with a slightly ribbed, occasionally wrinkled surface. The shell is light orange to beige, and meat deep orange, very thick, buttery and distinctly sweet.

The violin is great for baking, soups, purees, pasta, risotto, jams, as well as for desserts, as it has a naturally high sugar content. The fleshy part contains little moisture, so it does not fall apart during cooking and retains a pleasant texture.

The plant is lush, creeping, shoots can reach up to 3–4 meters, so it needs enough space on the shaft. Rims medium late, approximately 95–110 days from sowing, and the fruits are heavy 3–6 kg, and with good care even more. The variety is valued for the fact that keeps well for several months, often until spring, and the taste improves further.
